I am a member of a list serve for the Maryland Association for Justice.  Two attorneys who work downtown & drove to work today have lamented the state of traffic for the next couple of days.  The email below is from a wonderful attorney by the name of Wendy Shiff who is a partner with Salsbury, Clements, Bekman, Marder & Adkins, L.L.C.  I pass it along for your edification. The Memorial Service for Michael Radcliffe- Sunday, August 7, 2011

Yesterday was the Memorial Service for Michael Radcliffe, which was held by his family at the Towson Sheraton.

Cantor Nancy Ginsberg, who is the Chaplain at Gilchrest Hospice, beautifully led a service with her outstanding voice, speech, and presence.  She allowed as many as a thousand members of Michael’s friends and family to join together and celebrate his life.  She sang songs and told wonderful stories…

Jacke McCurdy, the First Female in the BCBA- A Woman of Many Firsts whose First Fee was a half dozen donuts

I had the honor of taking Jacqueline McCurdy Oral History on July 29,2011.  This Oral History was different than all of the rest in a number of ways.  First of all, Jacke lives in Florida, so we did this long distance.  We found a court reporter near Jacke’s home, Naples Reporting, where she could be video recorded.  Naples Reporting is owned by the ever helpful, ever professional Tony Wright, who had the…

You have to go to this link and watch the video retired Judge John Fader performing the most amazing song & dance routine.  He even plays harmonica!  Retired Judge John Fader played Judge Jacob Kidd in Judge Leonard Jacobson's 1986 production "Justice- All that Jazz".  Judge Fader  plays a Blues Brothers Judge a la John Belushi.  He is brilliant as he sings "Messin' with the Kidd."

You may have to wait a couple of minutes while the video loads, but it is worth the…

Happy Independence Day! Pictures of Parades from Baltimore County's Past (and a little music too.)

Parades are such a part of the July 4th holiday that I decided to peruse the parade photos from the wonderful website of the Baltimore County Public Library, the Legacy Web. As usual there were some delightful pictures to share with you. There are so many great pictures, that it is difficult to chose which ones to show you, but I hope you enjoy my selections.

This is a collage of photos from the July 4, 1922 parade in Sparrows Point (Source: Dundalk Historical Society)…

BCBA Historical Committee Report for Stated Meeting on 6/16/11- A great year, but much more to do

On behalf of the BCBA Historical Committee, I have filed the following report for the Bar Association meeting this week:

The Committee embarked upon a number of projects this year.  Kudos to the entire Committee members for all of their hard work.  Their efforts included:

1. Photographing the portraits in Courtroom 5- since Old Courtroom 5 is closed except for special events, most members rarely see the beautiful portraits of our honored predecessors. Therefore, Doris Barnes arranged… Continue
